I swear this is good publicity
Meet Pepper the potty-mouth parrot
Note to readers: Part of public relations is reputation management. Right or wrong, people will judge you on the company you keep or do business with. This week I wrote an apology and PR take to anyone I’ve led to Sticker Mule. Now, onto today’s show …
More than a few stories drive not-safe-for-some-workplace words, so when I read about a potty-mouth parrot, I thought, “{bleep} yeah.” It was tame compared to an admittedly wasted National Anthem singer, an arrogant business owner who solicited political campaign support and racist billboards in my home city. {sigh}
Soft landing A Niagara SPCA animal shelter director knew a good story when it flew into her lap last month. Pepper, a white-fronted Amazon parrot was the perfect publicity pal for a facility that hopes forever families mean “forever,” but is there to help when needed.
Pepper the potty-mouth parrot.
Amy Lewis, the Niagara SPCA’s publicity-savvy shelter director, shared Pepper’s search for a new home after his owner could no longer care for him and six parakeets. “Give us a call if you want to add a spicy Pepper to your life,” Lewis wrote on Facebook.
More than 400 people applied.
Special education teacher, Tiffany Turner, who with her fiancée already had a flippin great bird, earned the right to adopt Pepper.
It sounds like Pepper and his new comparrot will have free range to say whatever the hell they want and, most importantly, be well cared for.
Publicity lesson You never know when the next spectacular story will swoop into your stratosphere. Keep your ears and your mind open.
Work with me! I want to help you identify and publicize a great story or few. Contact me here to learn how.
