YouTube TV vs. Disney: The blackout that's pissing off millions

Disney's still dark and both sides are bungling the PR part

I wrote a thing about the YouTubeTV-Disney PR fiasco. But here’s the thing I posted it on my new sister site, PissedOffPublicist.com, first.

Another site, Gail?

Yup. Here’s why: I built the site for people who don’t get that journalists and PR agents aren’t the same — and that there’s more than one kind of journalist. Storytelling pieces, straight-up informational reporting and editorials are all legit. The same goes for solid PR. We’re not the same, but we often work together to keep people informed, entertained and even educated.

With so many people hating on “the media,” it felt past time to spell that out.

What PO’ed Publicist is and isn’t

PissedOffPublicist.com isn’t here to whine. It’s here to explain what each role does; call out BS and let you know you’re right to be ticked when facts are sloppy or flat-out ignored. The site is still bare bones, so please don’t judge too hard. In the meantime, let me know if and how it can be useful to you.

And now, the PR mess that’s annoyed a lot of us this past week … Is the YouTube TV-Disney beef a first-world problem? Absolutely. But it’s also proof that giant companies somehow find new ways to botch basic PR.

Quick preview 👓

Again, you can read the post in its entirety at pissedoffpublicist.com.

There was a lot of finger-pointing before YouTube TV’s Disney screens went dark. But people don’t care which megabuck corporation caused the outage. They just want their shows back. That’s where proactive and responsive PR comes into play. But there is none. (Read more.)
